Trainer experience (2024)

In Pokémon GO, Trainers gain Experience Points (XP for short) which results in their Levels. Trainer's experience is basically measurement of their progress of gameplay.

The original max level was 40. GO Beyond pushed the limit to 50 starting on November 30th, 2020.[1][2]

There are several ways of obtaining Experience Points. If Trainer is under the effect of a Lucky Egg when performing any of actions that rewards them with Experience Points, the XP gained will be doubled.

Trainer's Experience Points are measured by Levels. The higher certain Experience Points values Trainers have, the higher level they advance to.

A Trainer can level up to access newer items and more powerful Pokémon. The current maximum level a player can get is 50. Each time players level up, rewards are given to them based on what level has been achieved. Leveling-up past level 40 requires both XP and Level-up Research to be completed.

Trainer Level is also tied to maximum level an owned Pokémon can have. Trainers below Level 40 can only power up their Pokémon to their Trainer Level + 10; for instance, if a Trainer is currently at Level 35, the Trainer's Pokémon can be powered up to Level 45.

Each level requires a certain amount of XP or Researches and achieving it rewards Trainer with certain items.
