A delicious frozen, blended Pina Colada topped with floated dark rum is one of my favorite summer vacation style drinks. They are a bit sweet and heavy on calories though. A few too many traditional Pina Coladas and the girlish figure becomes a little too much for the itty bitty polka dot bikini if you know what I mean.
The Coco Colada is a lighter, non-blended Pina Colada variation. Instead of heavily sweetened coconut cream, this drink uses coconut water and light orange juice. These slight changes cut the calories drastically while still allowing authentic tropic flavor to shine through. Spiced rum adds an extra kick of flavor and hint of vanilla to the drink. If you prefer fresh squeezed orange juice to bottled light orange juice, by all means use that instead. The recipe as written contains approximately 128 calories. The Coco Colada drink is low calorie and full of flavor. Win. Win.

Like a tropical vacation in a glass, piña coladas can be decadent and high-calorie. But don't cut yourself off -- skip the sugary mixes, break out the blender and try our slimmed-down version.
How strong is that pina colada? Depending on how it's made, it could contain as much alcohol as two glasses of wine. The National Institutes of Health is trying to spread the word: Take a look at its online alcohol calculator to see how much you're really drinking with those summer co*cktails.
In most pina coladas, the only alcoholic ingredient is 3 ounces of light rum, which is about 80 proof. The other two ingredients are coconut cream and pineapple juice, totaling 9 ounces. The 70-80% proof rum gives pina coladas a 13% ABV.
Considered one of the most dangerous – and unhealthy – drinks, a Long Island iced tea doesn't actually contain any iced tea. Instead, it's a combination of vodka, gin, rum, tequila and triple sec, topped with sour mix and soda. All together, that means one Long Island contains as many as 780 calories.

If you like piña colada, you should know the famous tropical drink was invented in Puerto Rico! The sweet mix of coconut cream, pineapple juice, white rum, and ice was born in San Juan, but the identity of its creator is still an unresolved controversy on the island.
The name 'Piña Colada' directly translates from Spanish as 'strained pineapple', a reference to the freshly pressed and strained pineapple juice that should ideally be used in the drink's preparation.
