The Defender Bonus refers to free PokéCoins that are earned by leaving your Pokémon at a Gym to defend against challengers from other Teams. The longer your Pokémon is defending the Gym, the more PokéCoins you can earn. Feed your Pokémon treats to restore their CP and extend how long they're defending the Gym.

However, you can only earn a maximum of 50 PokéCoins per day, even if all Pokémon are removed from all the Gyms you are defending at once. Additionally, if your Pokémon has been in a Gym for several days, they will only provide 50 coins in total when they come back to you.

The Short Answer to the 50 PokeCoin Limit

This limit isn't just a random decision by the developers. Think of it as a way to balance the in-game economy. With a cap in place, PokeCoins remain valuable and the temptation to farm them excessively is reduced.

After 8 hours and 20 minutes in a gym, a pokemon has accrued 50 coins and can never accrue more. But the trainer does not get the coins until the pokemon is ejected from the gym, and even then the coins may do no good if the trainer has already received 50 coins from other gyms that day.

If you have more than one Pokémon return from defending Gyms in a single day, the maximum bonus for the day is still limited to 50 PokéCoins. If a Pokémon returns after multiple days in a Gym, the maximum bonus for the day is still limited to 50 PokéCoins.

Select a Pokémon to add to the Gym. Your Pokémon won't be returned to your collection until it's knocked off the Gym, so choose carefully!

The Short Answer to Your PokeCoin Puzzle

Another reason could be that your defending Pokemon hasn't been kicked out of the gym yet. PokeCoins are awarded only after your Pokemon returns to you. So, if your little champion is still holding the fort, those coins won't be jingling in your virtual pocket just yet.
