Do employers care about diploma? ›

Many jobs require candidates to possess certain degrees, certificates, and diplomas. Some may also want to verify that you have specific skills or have taken certain courses. Others may want to confirm that you have the determination and perseverance to set and stick to a goal.

If you are unable to pick up your diploma, it generally remains with the school or school district for a certain period of time. Each school may have its own policy regarding how long they retain diplomas, but they usually hold onto them for several years.

The diploma shows the title of the degree the student has earned, such as Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, or Master of Science in Nursing; it does not include the student's major.

If you haven't received your diploma in the estimated window of delivery, then you should reach out to your school's registrar's office. It's possible that there was a mix-up in the office or during the mailing process. Diplomas may even be returned to the school if the address is undeliverable.

Sometimes, a hiring manager may ask you to present your diploma, so they can keep a copy of it in your file. Other applications can require you to submit or order a sealed transcript. Another way a hiring manager may authenticate your education is by contacting the schools or universities that you attended.

Only 53% of employers always check job candidates' education credentials. Slightly more than half of the employers surveyed, 53%, always verify the education credentials listed on a job applicant's resume. Among the rest, 24% sometimes check applicants' education records, while 23% never do.

Is it too late for me to get it now and will it cause any problems for my college applications? It's not too late to get your diploma. Schools usually keep records and physical copies of diplomas for several years after a student's graduation.

Though it's rare for colleges to revoke degrees, it happens. Many schools have policies in place to revoke a degree if a student is discovered to have earned it illegitimately, be it by plagiarism or any other form of academic misconduct.

The Diploma is a legal document that certifies the completion of a degree program. The President and the University Registrar sign the Diploma.

It is recommended that the name on your diploma matches your official, legal name. However, you may request a preferred/chosen first and middle name to be printed in lieu of your legal name.

If you need proof of graduation after the conferral date but before you receive your diploma, you can request a copy of your transcript (Transcripts: How do I order official transcripts?) or request a Letter of Completion (LOC). Either document will show the date that your degree was awarded.

A graduating college class is typically larger than a high school class, so more paperwork and applications need to be filled out and verified by the school's staff. Additionally, not all students follow the typical four-year graduation timeline. Degrees may be completed at other times by some students.
