Blackout Shake | Bacon & Legs (2024)

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m partial to Great Lakes Brewing Company. Not just because it’s in Cleveland (though that doesn’t hurt) but because it’s awesome. I’m big into porters and stouts and I can’t say enough about the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and the Blackout Stout. So this week on DrinkingCraft.com, I whip up a chocolate and caramel milkshake using the GLBC Blackout Stout. It’s a boozy milkshake that actually features the alcohol rather than include it as an after thought. I really think you guys will like it. And at 10.5% ABV, it’s not a wussy shake. Just don’t get a brain freeze!

Editor’s Note: This post originally ran on DrinkingCraft.com on February 19, 2014.

Great Lakes Brewing Company, a Cleveland brewery, is known for their cleverly named creations that give a nice local nod to the city and its residents. While the Blackout Stout was named for the 2003 blackout that spread across a good deal of the Northeast and the Midwest,it actually has a dual meaning. The ABV on this beast is a 10.5%. It’s a ridiculously smooth and roasty beer; you’d hardly know it could knock you down so hard.

Which is what makes it perfect for this concoction.

How often do you want a boozy milkshake that doesn’t contribute to your buzz? Never. This chocolate-caramel milkshake is enhanced by the deep malty flavors of the Blackout Stout and it packs a serious punch.

Ingredients
2 ½ cups chocolate ice cream
½ cup Great Lakes Brewing Company Blackout Stout
¼ cup milk
2 tbsp caramel sauce + additional for garnish
whipped cream

In a blender, combine chocolate ice cream, Blackout Stout, milk and caramel sauce.

Blend until smooth.

Garnish with whipped cream and additional caramel, if desired.

Drink and repeat.
