We know you want your engagement pictures to reflect those warm, romantic and candid moments. What you wear for your engagement session has a big impact on the outcome of your engagement photos and the overall vibe of the session. Not sure what to wear for engagement pictures? No worries! This quick and easy to follow what-to-wear guide will assist you in choosing the best thing to wear for engagement photos that will help you two stand out and show off your personality in a beautiful way!

01 Avoid Small, Close Prints , Patterns and Logos

This may come as a surprise, but for your engagement pictures outfits try and stay away from patterns and large logo printed clothing. These tend to not photograph as well. Staying away from small, tight stripes and prints will save your engagement photos! Logos distract from the subject and relationships (aka you & your love story!). Instead, wear solid colored pieces that compliment each other! Your outfits won’t be clashing with each other & solid colors will tie in nicely with any location you chose!

02 All about those dreamy vibes

For dreamy engagement pictures like the ones in our portfolio, choose natural/earthy colors, off-whites, and neutral colors. We love recommending: beige/tan, denim’s, olive green, terracota and black. These colors always work great with all skin tones and almost all landscapes and backgrounds!

You can wear white for your engagement pictures, but too much white is also best to avoid. Have one of you wear something white and the other one wear a color with more contrast.

03 Minimize Accessories

We want you to be the focus of your engagement photos. Keeping accessories to a minimum will help to do just that! Too many accessories will take away the spotlight and may be overwhelming to the eye. If you choose to wear an accessory that makes a statement, minimize your other accessories and keep your clothing patterns simple. This will allow it to stand out without being too much. A statement accessory also makes a great prop for engagement pictures!

04 Wear two outfits: a dressy one and a casual one!

We love to give you some variety in your engagement pictures! This will allow you to have two styles to choose from and use your engagement pictures for your wedding website, save the dates, etc. We recommend doing two outfits for engagement sessions that are one hour long. This is your chance to wear that dress or outfit you’ve been wanting photos with! Feel free to ask us if you should wear your dressy outfit first or last.

05 Consider the vibe and location for your engagement session

Are you going to have an outdoor engagement session in nature? Or perhaps you want mountain top, adventure engagement pictures or maybe city engagement photos?

If you’ll be outdoors for your engagement pictures, dress accordingly and bring back up layers if there’s rain or cold weather in the forecast. If you’ll be taking engagement pictures in the city or somewhere indoors, try to match your engagement photo outfits to the atmosphere of the place you’re going to be in.

Quick tip: Color coordinate, but don’t match! We want variety and to show pieces of “you” within what you choose to wear.

We hope this guide helps you decide what to wear for engagement photos! Our best advice will always be: wear what makes you confident and what makes you feel your best. If you really want to love your photos, it’s best to make sure they look AND feel like you!
