Have you ever heard of the 30/5 rule? This is a rule that applies to wedding days (and maybe shopping sprees in Target). In this blog, I’m going to explain what the 30/5 rule is and how you can work with it on your wedding day to have a stress free day!

So what is the 30/5 rule?

It’s the rule that accounts for things that typically take 5 minutes in real life that will take 30 minutes on a wedding day. It also means that 30 minutes on a wedding day will feel like 5 minutes. You may have heard people say over and over that your wedding day will fly by. Well this rule proves that it really does!

I have attended more weddings than the average person! I can say with certainty that typical 5 minutes tasks can derail your entire wedding day if not given proper time. Whether it’s getting into your dress, pinning on a boutonniere, or adding in extra toasts, little things that may not seem like a big deal can actually end up taking much more time than you’d ever expect. Thus the 30/5 rule!

There is an easy way to combat this though, and it just takes some prep!

The best way to make the 30/5 rule work for you and not against you, is to have a solid wedding day timeline and a plan to follow it. This is where I come in! I am able to work with you to create a custom wedding day timeline that allows for wiggle room when those sneaky 5 minute tasks turn into 30 minutes.

Oftentimes I see couples believe that they can squeeze in family photos, bridal party photos, and some photos of the two of them within an hour before or after the ceremony. Truthfully, that just is not the case. We have to plan for enough time to not only get the photos that you want but also account for things like a family member running behind, your veil falling out, or a bridesmaid forgetting her bouquet. Because believe me, something always pops up on a wedding day that is unexpected!

When we plan your wedding day timeline, we will be taking into account all things that we can realistically plan.

That includes time for you to get into your dress, any first looks you’ll be having, when the first dance will take place, etc. I’ll lend my professional advice to you as well. I will help map out a wedding day timeline that is realistic and allows us to include the things that are important to you. This isn’t meant to create a rigid wedding day. It’s really the opposite! Planning out your day as best as we can will ensure that we can capture all of the little moments that you don’t want to miss because we didn’t plan correctly!

So there you have it! I think that going into your wedding day being aware of the 30/5 rule is half of the battle. Once you are aware that small things can lead to big lapses in time you can plan to handle those situations. Of course I’ll be there as well to help keep things on track!
