SAN ANTONIO – Junior James Taussig and sophom*ore Zach Royse of the UTSA baseball team both earned spots on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as CoSIDA, was founded in 1957 and is a 4,100+ member national association for strategic, creative and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
To be eligible, an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). A position player must have played in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of the team’s contests, while a pitcher must have a minimum of 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched. Taussig and Royse are two of 25 student-athletes from the American Athletic Conference who were named to the team this year.
A native of Houston, Texas, Taussig has held a 3.93 GPA as he works toward his bachelor’s degree in finance. He split the 2024 season between right field, first base and designated hitter, collecting 50 hitters, 33 runs, and 37 RBI as one of the Roadrunners’ clutch hitters. Transferring to UTSA after beginning his career at Radford, Taussig has collected 53 hits (11 of them for extra bases), 36 runs and 39 RBI in two seasons.
A native of Katy, Texas, Royse holds a 3.50 GPA as he pursues his bachelor’s degree in management. He earned a spot as a weekend starter this season, making 11 starts and 16 appearances total while striking out 27 batters in 44 innings pitched. He began his career at UTSA as a true freshman in 2023, recording 32 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work across 14 starts in 24 appearances.
