Brian Goodwin's ability to contribute myriad ways -- with his bat, his arm, his speed, his glove -- has helped the young center fielder to climb to second in our latest Patriot-News/PennLive MVP standings.

RECAPPING YESTERDAY

Senators 5, Rock Cats 2:

Brian Goodwin finished 3-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base as Harrisburg won its first road series since sweeping Reading May 17-19. Blake Treinen (6-6) earned the win by allowing one run in 5+ innings, and Aaron Barrett recorded the final four outs for his 12th save. New Britain stranded 15 runners on base.

Elsewhere in the Eastern League yesterday:

* Portland 7, Akron 4 -- RF Pete Hissey went 3-for-5 with two runs, a home run and two RBIs for the Sea Dogs.

* Binghamton 5, Bowie 4 -- 1B Joe Bonfe (2-for-4) led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off homer, his first of the season for the Mets.

* New Hampshire 22, Erie 1 -- 1B Adam Loewen paced an insane 23-hit attack by going 4-for-6 with three runs, a double, two homers and five RBIs as the Fisher Cats more than reversed Saturday's twisted score.

* Reading 5, Richmond 4 -- LHP Austin Wright (No. 18 Phillies prospect) won his second straight start, allowing two earned runs in six innings with four strikeouts, improving to 2-3 with a 7.96 ERA for the Fightin Phils, who handed the Flying Squirrels a seventh straight defeat.

* Altoona 2, Trenton 1 -- Though he didn't factor in the decision, RHP Jameson Taillon (No. 2 Pirates prospect) struck out six in five innings and did not allow an earned run as the Curve stretched their winning streak to five games.
