Early life[]

Jake was born in 1990 in Port Haven, Canada to Del and Colton Landry. He has an older sister named Kat. As children, he used to say that he would be her photographer, since she would be a journalist, and together they would go on "adventures". [3]

Summer 1999 and disappearance[]

On June 19, 1999, Kat introduced Alice to Elliot as the new girl in town, and Alice quickly got to know Elliot as Kat's best friend who was always at the barn. Elliot then invited them to see the moon with his telescope. As they were leaving, Colton showed up, teasing Kat about using him as an excuse. Kat introduced Alice to Colton as the girl who had been swimming at the pond. Alice was delighted to meet him, and Colton reciprocated the warmth.[2]Later, when they returned inside, Kat lent Alice some clothes and invited her to join her family for dinner. Alice had a great time with Del and Jake during dinner. After the meal, Colton sang a bit while Kat and Alice washed the dishes, and Alice impulsively joined in. Although she felt embarrassed, Colton reassured her, praising her talent. As Alice prepared to leave, Jake gave her a big hug and warned her to be careful with "the white witch," to which she replied, telling him to take care of himself.[2]

On October 29, 1999, 8-year-old Jacob eagerly attended the annual Port Haven Carnival fair, accompanied by Brady and Kat. Amidst the bustling excitement, Jacob's luck shone bright as he triumphantly won a stuffed dog as a prize. As they reached the Ferris wheel, Kat kindly offered to join Jacob, but he confidently asserted that he was "old enough" to ride solo, promising to wait for her and Brady.[3]

However, fate took a cruel turn when Jacob accidentally dropped his stuffed animal while on the ride. Determined to retrieve it, he swiftly made his way to where it had fallen. After successfully recovering it, his joy was short-lived as he found himself unexpectedly encountering Danny, who callously snatched the stuffed animal away.[3]

A frantic pursuit ensued, with Jacob and Danny darting through the fairgrounds until they reached the edge of a cliff. Despite Jacob's valiant efforts to apprehend him, Danny heartlessly hurled the stuffed animal into the depths below. Disheartened but resigned, Jacob abandoned the chase and made his way home, accompanied by a concerned Kat.

Fast forward to the present day, Katherine returned home in a desperate attempt to find solace or closure, only to discover Jacob missing once more. Meanwhile, in 1999, a compassionate fisherman stumbled upon Jacob's lost stuffed animal and promptly returned it to Colton. Fueled by a father's unwavering love, Colton embarked on a search mission aboard his boat, but tragically returned with the devastating news of Jacob's disappearance, leaving Del shattered by the loss of their son. [3]

Colton's death and Kat's theory[]

For months, Cole enlisted the help of a private investigator to search for any trace of Jacob's disappearance, but to no avail. Struggling to cope with the overwhelming grief and uncertainty, he eventually turned to group therapy sessions to find solace and support in dealing with the loss of his son.

On February 17, 2000, tragedy struck once more as Colton lost control of his car while driving home. In a frantic attempt to avoid adult Kat and Alice, who were present at the scene for reasons yet unknown, he veered off the road. In the chaos that ensued, Colton came face to face with adult Kat and, in a moment of recognition, realized her true identity as his long-lost daughter.[4]

In the present, when Fynn returns home soaking wet, it triggers a vivid flashback for Kat. She recalls the day when Jake found Fynn's ball and the eerie night of his disappearance when she heard Fynn barking incessantly. Determined to uncover the truth, Kat turns to the Almanac, where she discovers a cryptic message left by Jacob himself—a mark bearing their initials, "JK," alongside the passage: "The explorer found a home, but still looks at stars when he feels lost." This poignant revelation ignites a memory of Jake sharing his belief that explorers navigate by the stars to find their way home. [5][6]

With a sudden epiphany, Kat pieces together the puzzle: Jake had followed Fynn to the pond, where he accidentally fell in and was somehow transported back in time. Emboldened by this realization, Kat prepares herself to embark on a journey to uncover the mysteries surrounding her brother's disappearance and, perhaps, to bring him back home.[6]

Traveling back in time and meeting Kat[]

Jacob Landry (3)

In 1790, Jacob resurfaced after following Fynn to the pond, only to find himself lost in unfamiliar territory. Fortunately, he was discovered by Rebecca and Elijah Landry, who took him home. Recognizing his trauma and inability to communicate his ordeal, the Landrys assumed Jacob had become separated from his family. Moved by compassion, Elijah and Rebecca eventually decided to adopt him, integrating him into their family despite already having a son.[7]

Years passed, and Jacob became an integral part of the Landry household. However, tragedy struck in December 1813 when Rebecca passed away, leaving Elijah and the boys to manage the farm. Determined to honor her memory and contribute to the community, Elijah built the town lighthouse and continued to express himself through his artwork, often painting scenes of the lighthouse and its surroundings.[7][8]

By 1814, Jacob had found love and was engaged to Susanna Augustine. However, his responsibilities called him away to deliver a ship for the war effort, leaving Susanna behind. During Kat's first journey to 1814, she found herself caught in a perilous situation when she was mistaken for game and shot by Thomas Coyle. Susanna, the town's healer, tended to her wounds and cared for her as she deliriously muttered the names of Jacob and Alice. In a frantic escape, Kat encountered Cyrus Goodwin, only to be rescued by Susanna on horseback. Susanna, sensing Kat's connection to Jacob, became defensive, demanding to know Kat's intentions. Kat, realizing Jacob was with Susanna, kept her true identity hidden, and Susanna reassured her that Jacob was happy on the Landry farm.[7][8]

On her second trip, Kat encountered Elijah and Jacob Jr., initially mistaking the latter for her own brother. During their conversation, Elijah revealed the truth of Jacob's adoption into the Landry family after being separated from his own. Additionally, Kat learned that Susanna was betrothed to Jacob, and Susanna discovered Kat's true relationship to Jacob as his sister. The revelation of their intertwined fates added further complexity to their shared history.[7]

In the present day, Kat turns to Elliot for assistance, hoping that his father's ship manuscripts may contain clues regarding Jake's existence. Disheartened by the lack of evidence, Kat returns to 1814 and informs Susanna that she is still searching for Jacob.[9]

Back in 2024, Elliot informs Kat that there is no trace of Jake in the ship manuscripts, prompting Kat to instruct him to investigate "Thomas Coyle." The following day, Elliot provides Kat with information revealing that Thomas Coyle is listed on the manifest and is scheduled to return on Harvest day.[9]

Determined to intercept Thomas, Kat returns to 1814 and confronts him, warning him that Jake will return that day. As they proceed with the harvest alongside Elijah, William, and Susanna, young Jacob rushes to inform them of Jake's return. Rushing to the shore, they are met with a devastating sight as Jacob is captured by Cyrus Goodwin's men and taken away once again. The reunion they had longed for is tragically snatched away, leaving Kat and her companions filled with despair and determination to rescue Jacob once more.[9]
