Have We Been Eating Nutella Wrong This Whole Time? (2024)

Nutella, or "NOU- tella" as it's apparently pronounced, is the ultimate breakfast spread. There's very little it can't do. This is exactly why we love it more than most things on earth.

But little did we know that this whole time, we've been eating Nutella from the jar, wrong.

Yep! According to one Reddit user, UD_Ramirez, it's all in the way you scoop your Nutella from the jar, and always going from the centre will stop you ever having to scrape dried bits of Nutella from the edge of the jar for good.

They write: "My girlfriend taught me this. I found it hard to believe at first but it works time and time again."

"If you only take from the centre of the Nutella jar, the thickness of the Nutella stuck to the glass will pull it down. This will cause the sides to be perfectly clean by the next day."

"I suspect it is because of the cohesion of the Nutella pulling down the remains, and/or the thickness keeping the residue from drying out and sticking to the glass.

"Either way, I was surprised to see her trick works really well. No endless scratching to get the remains out by the end, except for the very bottom."

This comment naturally sparked quite the debate on the online forum, with many insisting that they were going to buy lots of jars to test out the theory.

However, it also started conversation around the different Nutellas from around the world, with one user pointing out that it didn't work on most non-US Nutellas because of the difference in ingredients. This sparked Nutella fans across the globe confirming that this theory DIDN'T work for their respective country's beloved hazelnut spread (including France, Germany and India).

However, thankfully one trusty UK-based Nutella fan (SkiingGod) confirmed it apparently DOES work for us.

"Works on UK Nutella. At uni my weapon of choice was a full on dessert spoon. All you need to adjust is the ambient temp. I'd say 16 degrees was enough for the UK stuff."

Other chocolate spread fans were also quick to point out that a rubber spatula was also a must-have tool to ensure you get every last inch of chocolatey goodness out of the jar.

And here we were scraping from the sides of the Nutella jar our entire lives. Thanks to Reddit for giving us the life hack of all life hacks.
