Noel Fielding has a brand new comedy, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, debuting on Apple TV+ tomorrow. The series is a madcap look at the life of legendary highwayman Dick Turpin, but with an absurdist streak. (Think more Blackadder than Masterpiece.) The series not only stars The Great British Baking Show host, but is executive produced by him. So does this mean Fielding’s days in the Bake Off tent are numbered? Is Noel Fielding the latest British comic to leave The Great British Baking Show?!?

“Don’t panic.It’s okay,” Fielding reassured a worried journalist during the Television Critics Association Winter 2024 panel for The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. “They let me out of the tent briefly to get on a horse.”

No, Noel Fielding’s new Apple TV+ show doesn’t mean he’s quitting The Great British Baking Show. However, the fact that he’s venturing into new projects does beg the question: how long does Noel Fielding plan on being on The Great British Baking Show? Is he planning an exit from the tent in the near future? If The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin turns out to be a hit for Apple TV+, will his workload be too much to keep all the cake plates spinning? (After all, both Sandi Toksvig and Matt Lucas left The Great British Baking Show to focus on other projects…)

When Decider caught up with Fielding after the Dick Turpin panel, we asked him point blank how long he sees himself on The Great British Baking Show now that he’s got a new passion project.

“I think you can do both,” Fielding said. “I think it’s not ridiculous.”

“I do Bake Off and Celeb Bake Off and [Nevermind the] Buzzco*cks. And Buzzco*cks is a very short shoot which is good. So there is time.”

That said, Fielding admitted that not everyone in his camp loves his packed schedule.

“It is a little bit tricky. I mean, my agent would say it’s a nightmare,” Fielding laughed. “I don’t worry about these things. I think there’s always a way. You can always work out that stuff in the end.”

Fielding’s new show The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is set in a farcical version of 1730s England. Although Dick Turpin was a real historic figure — a rather nasty horse thief — the Apple TV+ version is a sweet, vegetarian dandy with a love of all things rooted in the imagination. The series imagines Fielding as the titular character, an accidental highwayman who finds himself swept up in silly heists and magical battles.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin premieres on Apple TV+ tomorrow, March 1. A new season of The Great British Baking Show — which Noel Fielding assures us he will still host — is expected to film this summer for a fall debut.
