Desk: Where can I found one like this?

Postby DarkHelmetII »
Where can I find a desk like below? 100% Wood, not particle board. Looking to spend a few hundred dollars, assuming that is possible.
Thank you.

Depending on where you live, estate sales are a great source of used furniture. There's a web site I use which publishes regular alerts for estate sales. You set the radius around your zip code.

Check with your local unfinished furniture store. Everything they sell in our area is solid wood. They can special order for you. They will finish the piece for you for a reasonable price.

Almost any furniture [store] will get you one. They have catalogs and catalogs of what they can order if it is not on the floor. We have a very similar desk made of oak.

I just Googled "Simple wood desks" and found a number of sites with vast offerings. I saw a number of very nice pieces from well known providers. There is of course virtually no way to find this specific desk. I guarantee you can find something you love.
Cheers

Both Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are likely to have quite a selection of older solid wood desks for fairly little money. Usually better quality than new and far cheaper!

Craigslist is usually full of them as dedicated desks (and home offices) are rapidly disappearing from most homes. Modern living takes the laptop or tablet wherever the user likes - sofa, kitchen counter, dining table, outdoors, cafe, etc.

We bought two of them, at separate times, off Craigslist. I found the term "writing desk" to be helpful in sorting down the number of hits. We paid about $100 a piece for them.
Lovely pieces of furniture.

Click the link at the top of this page where it says "Amazon" and then type in their search box "solid wood writing desk".

Check out local woodworkers. That is a weekend project for many. I do woodworking as a hobby because I enjoy it and it has slowly morphed into building projects just like what you are asking for other people who aren't interested in pressed wood assemble-it-yourself furniture. I probably have a backlog of about five years of projects that people have asked me to build when I get time.

+1. This allows to choose your wood and design and desk height, especially if you're willing to spend more than $50!

Search for "Mission" or "Arts and Crafts" style furniture.

Arts and Crafts writing desk bookcase: http://www.google.com/search?q=arts+cra ... e&tbm=isch

Craigslist definitely. That's what I did, and it was cheaper than the ikea junk anyway. (and already assembled)
Although it seemed like a brilliant move when I owned my townhouse, after I sold and started moving from apartment to apartment this furniture approach increased my moving costs dramatically. (I can no longer DIY move even as a young man because my furniture is too heavy)

That’s a “Mission” style desk. Many places sell them. I think I bought one in this style at Target back in the day.
