COVID-19 Testing

If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID-19, stay at home and contact your medical provider. If you do not have a primary care doctor, contact the City’s Public Health Info Line at (562) 570-INFO (4636). You can also learn more about thesymptoms of COVID-19 and how to care for yourself or someone in your home.

• COVID-19 Testing

  If you have health insurance, we strongly encourage youto contact your doctor or health plan to get tested. Doctors and health plans are responsible for providing COVID-19 testing to patients assigned to them.

  If your employer or school requires a test, go through your workplace or school to get tested. They may offer free tests.

  If you do not have health insurance, don’t worry. There are many ways to get free COVID-19 tests. You can get free COVID-19 testing at the participating locations listed here!

• Free COVID-19 Testing

  Starting November 20, 2023, every U.S. household is eligible to order an additional 4 free at-home tests. If you did not order tests this fall, you may place two orders for a total of 8 tests. To order, click here.
  

  Increasing Community Access to Testing for COVID-19

  The U.S government will continue to make COVID-19 tests available to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through existing outreach programs. The ICATT program has been providing no-cost COVID-19 testing for uninsured people who are symptomatic or exposed.

• At-Home Tests

  How to use an At-Home Test?

  • Check the expiration date. If an antigen self-test is past its expiration date, it may still be good to use.

  • Follow the manufacturer’s step by step instructions exactly.

  • Keep all parts of the test kit out of reach of children.

  • Make sure that you understand your test results.

  • Most at-home tests can safely used past the date on the box. Check the FDA's At-Home COVID-19 Test page to see if the expiration date of your test kit has been extended.

• CVS Testing

  CVS Health is offering free COVID-19 testing to residents in select states, including California. Patients must legally reside in the state where the test is given and be 18 years of age or older.

  Long Beach residents must schedule an appointment at CVS in advance. Results typically take 2-4 days but may take 5-7 days in times of peak demand, and are made available via an emailed link.

  What To Bring When Testing at CVS

  You will need to show proof of your identity and birthdate. You'll also need to show your appointment confirmation, either by email or text message. Be sure to have your mobile phone in case they need to reach you.

  • If you have tested positive for COVID-19, or been told by a clinician that you are presumed to be positive, you are required to isolate yourself at home.
  • Regardless of the outcome of your test, if you had close contact with someone who has or is likely to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days, you are required to quarantine yourself at home.

In this program, peopleareable to get tested and – if they are positive and treatments are appropriate for them – receive a prescription from a health care provider, and have their prescription filled all in one location. These “One-Stop Test to Treat” locationsareavailable at hundreds of locations nationwide, including pharmacy-based clinics,federally-qualifiedcommunity health centers (FQHCs), and long-term care facilities. • When to Seek Emergency Care

  If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19, you should get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to be roused/awakened
  • Bluish lips or face

  Call 911 if you have a medical emergency: Notify the operator that you have, or think you might have, COVID-19. If possible, put on a cloth face covering before medical help arrives.
