Does the Sony A7R V have S Cinetone? ›

It's capable of outputting 3.8K RAW via its full-sized HDMI connector.

Despite the addition of 8K capability, we don't see video as the a7R V's strong point. While it's true that the camera can output 8K or high-speed 4K video, most of its modes are subject to significant crops, significant rolling shutter or both.

Maximum color depth is also impressive at 26.1 bits at ISO 100 but it is at the lower end of the range (26.0 – 26.4 bits) of those with a DXOMARK score of 100.

Delivering a faster and more efficacious experience, the S-Cinetone is perfect for beginners and those who are working on tight deadlines. Another comparable thing is that S-Cinetone has a lower base ISO than S-Log3, making it more workable during daylight or bright conditions.

The Sony A7R V builds on the power of its predecessor with its higher resolution EVF and LCD screen, more stops of image stabilization and a new AI autofocus unit, but the massive 61MP sensor provides too much noise for astrophotography.

The a7RV has a nice level of weather sealing with gaskets throughout the camera. The side of the camera with the ports doesn't look all that different, but there are some important upgrades there.

The camera shoots at up to 10 frames per second using its mechanical shutter and 7 fps using the electronic shutter.

8K 24p and 4K 60p Support

Making use of the high-resolution sensor and fast processing capabilities, UHD 8K 24p and UHD 4K 60p XAVC HS 10-bit video recording is possible using the full width of the sensor with full pixel readout for impressive sharpness and realism.

You can find S-Cinetone on cameras such as the FX6, FX9, a7siii among others. But if you are still using the Sony a7iii, there is a custom picture profile that you can dial in to get very similar results straight out of camera that closely matches S-Cinetone.

S-Cinetone is a gamma curve that is designed to already give a pleasing look for rec. 709 output and doesn't have the need to be converted/managed. Like Uli said, either flag it as rec. 709 or bypass colormanagement for those clips.

The dynamic range of S-Cinetone is 460%. Although it's lower than that of S-Log3, the balance between the dynamic range and the noise level is good for high quality video images.
