A Quiet Place

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A Quiet Place artfully plays on elemental fears with a ruthlessly intelligent creature feature that's as original as it is scary -- and establishes director John Krasinski as a rising talent.

Audience Member A spectacular concept executed as deftly as one could hope, Krasinski and company milk the premise for all its breath-holding terror, while injecting the story with equal parts heart and tragedy. A great, moving and suspenseful creature-feature! Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Pascal K It's okay. It's inconsistent about what activities make sound and attract the things. It doesn't make too much sense that everybody kind of left when the wife needed their family the most....idk. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Audience Member One of the 2018's biggest surprises Actor John Krasinski stars and directs with his wife Emily Blunt in a fresh horror movie An effective PG-13 horror movie that relies entirely on silence They both star as husband Lee and wife Evelyn with three kids; sadly their youngest dies because of giant agile like monsters that hunt relying on sound (at some point these things invaded earth and have wiped out most of humanity) They're blind but the slightest cough or knocking over furniture can draw them close in packs A year later the Abbot family establishes a silent but peaceful life on a farm laying out their walking paths to be safe Their daughter Regan is deaf so they've been able to use sign language to safely communicate even though her father has been desperate to find a way to fix her cochlear implant and a way to kill these monsters finding a weak spot The movie is impressively made without a single word of dialogue spoken for the first half because like these people the audience is trying not to make a sound or else it means danger It's easy to understand how these characters are feeling based on their facial expressions conveying their emotions The parents do worry though if they can't protect their own children then who are they? The creatures themselves are slickly designed moving around like giant spiders but have the speed of a cheetah along with super strength and razor sharp teeth I was grateful I got a lot of scary moments that made me jump Krasinski and Blunt are excellent together, this has a quick pace, really good acting, sound design, and it actually made me cry at the end because you've grown attached to these people a lot Simmonds in particular is a welcome change of pace for an actual person with a disability that serves as an unknown advantage later on (a great step forward as far as inclusiveness) Yet that ending was very abrupt, but the creators leave open possibility to expand the world they created Thankfully no large amounts of exposition and the score by Marco Beltrami is only in spurts creating atmosphere This works as a mature drama and a horror movie with creative writing making you feel for characters making it out alive even if the world around them falls apart John Krasinski succeeds presenting a haunting examination of life after the world's collapse Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Dylan N Best horror film I've seen by a landslide. It's Incredibly well written, it focuses on the characters and the family instead of the monsters. It's scary enough to build very exciting suspense. It leaves a lot up for interpretation but in a good way. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Pepe Silvia P A boring big waste of time. Dumb ending. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Jay A Thrilling and psychologically suspenseful horror movie with characters that you really grow to like. Has a lot of interesting concepts like being deaf in a post-apocalyptic world. There are some genuinely terrifying moments and jump scares that keep you on your toes. Love the use of sound design, every little noise being amplified to instill fear. Also has some heartbreaking, well-written moments that allow you to feel the fear and sadness of this family. Overall, a great watch despite some minor plot holes. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (1) J. R. Jones Chicago Reader A familiar premise is redeemed by a nifty gimmick in this suspenseful horror thriller. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Robert Daniels 812filmreviews But the difficulty does not lie in the lack of verbiage, but in our prohibitions. We're an ableist society, often fearful of the "arduous" journey that comes with empathizing with the deaf. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Perri Nemiroff Collider Video Sure, it's just a movie but A Quiet Place is so effective that you'll be deathly afraid of making a sound - just like the main characters. Rated: 9/10 Apr 25, 2018 Full Review A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Swetha Ramakrishnan Firstpost The vast potential of silence does the trick in A Quiet Place — one of the most terrifying films in recent times for its execution of a unique brand of horror. Oct 10, 2023 Full Review A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews A Quiet Place remains emotionally impactful even after multiple viewings. Through justified shock value and surprisingly investing non-verbal dialogues, it's one more piece of evidence that the best horror emerges from remarkable character building. Rated: A- Jul 24, 2023 Full Review A Quiet Place | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s smart, light on gore, but heavy on tension. It knows its premise and fully embraces it. Never does it feel the need to give us tedious and uninteresting exposition nor does it overstay its welcome. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
